Studio Policies

  • Through the study of voice and performance we strive towards a better understanding of ourselves, our bodies, our personal development, learning habits, and confidence. By harnessing our creativity, mental focus, and discipline we will set, strive for, and achieve goals for vocal technique, career/development, and a rewarding life.

  • All lessons can be scheduled online at chelseahollow.com/lessons. A credit card is required to reserve the lesson but will not be charged until after the lesson time has ended. If there is trouble finding a lesson time that works for you, please email me. Recurring appointments can be setup by Chelsea at weekly or bi-weekly intervals. Lessons can also be booked on your own schedule but note that booking is not possible with less than 48 hours notice.

  • Rates are as follows ($100/hour; $90/40-min; $80/30-min). If finances are tight, please contact Chelsea regarding either a sliding scale option or potential room in her Pro Bono lesson offerings.

Payments can be made via Venmo, Paypal, Check, Cash, or Credit Card. If paying by credit card, Chelsea will charge the card on file after your lesson. If sending payment via Venmo or Paypal, please send at the culmination of your lesson. Chelsea will not carry change so if paying cash, please have exact cash.

  • Students should arrive for lessons hydrated and in comfortable clothing which allows for movement. Lessons will begin with energizing movements (ie. squats, push-ups, jumping jacks, etc. depending on student’s physical abilities and comfort) followed by a segment of vocal warm-up and technical focus. Repertoire will act as a place to practice technical focus from the first part of the lesson as well as an opportunity to discover new tools and coordinations.

As a student of singing, your responsibilities beyond song preparation/performance will grow to include repertoire selection, practice management, career growth, and much more, but if you are just beginning, this can seem overwhelming. Repertoire can be chosen with Chelsea’s assistance but as it is a very personal process, it can take time. To avoid using your lesson time for repertoire research, feel free to start this process via email. Think about what genres you’d like to sing and specific songs you have in mind. Youtube, Spotify, and iTunes are great resources for all genres. If you are more focused on classical, I highly recommend Song Helix. IMSLP has a huge library of free classical sheet music in the public domain and MusicNotes.com is a great starting place for most popular styles.

Please have either a binder of your song repertoire or an electronic version of your sheet music (note-taking abilities required) and plan to bring this to each lesson. If you are bringing a new song to Chelsea, please bring a copy or email a pdf before your lesson begins.

  • Lessons are often booked back to back with 5 minutes of transition time at the end of the previous lesson. For in-person lessons, please arrive a couple minutes early and text upon arrival. If you are running late, please let me know asap by text/email. If 15 minutes have passed without notice of student being late, Chelsea will assume the lesson is a no-show cancellation.

  • Short version: 24 hours notice must be given to avoid charge of full lesson fee.

Details: No charge for cancellations due to illness (physical & mental), emergencies, etc. Please let me know and we can try to reschedule. No-show appointments will be cancelled at 15 minutes and charged for the full lesson time.

  • Students are required to setup and revisit practice goals that are achievable and specific. Lessons are the guided starting point to your weekly practice. Chelsea is happy to help in this process and has many ideas to get you started: Building a Practice Routine. Students should have access to a space they feel comfortable practicing in with the privacy needed to be focused on their work. If you would like any help in brainstorming, scheduling, or sticking to your practice routine, please let Chelsea know during your lesson or by email.

  • It is important to have regular opportunities to check on overall growth in addition to the lesson to lesson growth. Adjudications are my way of ensuring we get opportunities to do just that. We can use your recital performances or we can record a private video performance 1-3 times/year to analyze together. Students will watch their video performance and fill out the Adjudication Form with their analysis. Chelsea will do the same and at the following lesson, time will be taken to discuss both assessments and set goals for future growth.

  • Zoom is our default lesson option but I can also use FaceTime, SoundJack, and other options. If internet is slow, it is possible to do a lesson over the phone, but it is not ideal for longterm lesson scheduling. If using Zoom, we will adjust some audio settings at the beginning of the lesson to ensure clear audio. For students who are not tech-savvy, please have someone near for the first lesson to make sure we are setup properly. The delay on most of these services is substantial and makes it impossible for Chelsea to accompany; students will need to feel comfortable singing acapella and arranging the audio for accompaniment tracks if they wish to be accompanied.
